# Org Chart

> See your team drawn in the order of your organization's roles, for one store or the whole organization, set who reports to whom, group people into departments and role groups, and see who can view pay

The **Org Chart** draws your team as a set of bands, one per role, from the top role down, with lines for who reports to whom. The list of your team members, on **People > Team & Access**, says who works at the store and what their role is; the Org Chart shows how those people are arranged. Which band someone sits in comes from the role on their team member profile. The lines come from reporting relationships set here.

Open **Organization > Org Chart**.

Here to set who someone reports to? Go to [Set who reports to whom](#set-who-reports-to-whom).

## Read the chart

Say a new Team Lead has joined your store and should report to one of its Directors (use your own role names). Each band on the left is one of your roles, numbered in your organization's role order, and everyone holding that role sits in it. So the new Team Lead appears in the Team Lead band as soon as that role is on their profile; someone in the wrong band has the wrong role there.

A line appears only when a person has a supervisor recorded, directly or through a role group. A chart of tidy bands with almost no lines means nobody has been given a supervisor yet. A **department** is drawn as a dashed box around its people; it groups them visually and does not create lines.

**This Location** shows the store selected at the top of the sidebar and **Organization** shows everyone across your organization. Inactive team members are not shown. Zoom with the controls at the bottom left, and move around a large chart with the map at the bottom right.

## Open a person

Click a card to open the person's panel: their role, **Title**, who they report to, department, area, tenure, direct reports, and their pay if you are allowed to see it. Cards and the panel show the name from your scheduling system, not the **Goes by** name on their profile.

## Set who reports to whom

1. On **Organization > Org Chart**, click **Configure**.
2. On the **Relationships** tab, find the person, in the example the new Team Lead, and under **Reports to** pick their supervisor. You can also pick a **Department**.

The line draws as soon as it saves. The person's own panel has the same **Reports to** and **Department** fields, plus a **Title** you can type, such as "Training Coordinator". Levelset never works out a reporting line from the bands on its own.

## Departments and role groups

**Configure** has two more tabs. **Departments** makes the dashed boxes: give one a name and pick the role groups that belong to it. A **role group** gathers people who share a role, for example the Team Leads at one store, so they can report to one supervisor together instead of one at a time. Make one on **Role Groups**, then set its **Reports to**. A person connected through a role group is not counted in their supervisor's direct reports.

## Who can see pay

This is the one pay rule across Levelset: the team member list, this chart, the schedule and Levi, the assistant built into Levelset, all follow it. You see a person's pay only when your role includes a pay permission, and then only for people whose role is below yours: not your peers and not yourself. Your organization can widen that with a further permission to see the pay of peers and supervisors, which shows everyone at the store except you. The decision is made per store, so a person with pay access at one store may see no pay at another. Without a pay permission, no pay shows anywhere.

## Who can do what

| If you notice this | The permission behind it |
| - | - |
| **Org Chart** is missing from the **Organization** menu | Org Chart > View Org Chart |
| No **Configure** button, and the fields in a person's panel are read only | Org Chart > Edit Org Chart |
| No **Pay** row in anyone's panel | Team Members > View Pay Rates or Team Members > Manage Pay Settings |
| Pay shows for people below you but not for peers or supervisors | Team Members > See Pay of Peers and Supervisors |

If you're missing something here, ask whoever manages roles in your organization to turn it on. See [Roles](/team/roles).
